Combat Pool

From The Riddle of Steel Wiki (according to Jim)

Jump to: navigation, search

Combat Pool can denote two things in TRoS. It is both a a statistic representing the general combat ability of a character in regard to a specific Combat Proficiency and a pool of Dice used in Combat over the duration of a Combat Round.

Combat Pool (Statistic)

A character has a combat pool for each proficiency they have, representing their ability in that proficiency. A character's combat pool for a melee proficiency is an amount of dice equal to the characters Reflex plus the rank of the combat proficiency. A character's combat pool for a ranged proficiency is an amount of dice equal to the characters Aim plus the rank of the combat proficiency.

Melee Combat Pool = Combat Proficiency + Reflex

Ranged Combat Pool = Combat Proficiency + Aim

Combat Pool (Dice Pool)

At the beginning of each Combat Round, each combatant Refreshes his Combat Pool by gathering up a number of Dice equal to his combat pool stat. Then, any applicable Combat Pool Modifiers are applied. And finally, Pain or carryover Shock is applied. This then constitutes your total combat pool until the next round.

From this pool of dice, almost all rolls involving combat are made. Once dice are used from the pool they are gone until the next combat pool refresh.
